Bridge - Boca Grande

Gasparilla Temporary Construction Bridge, Boca Grande, FL

Kelly Brothers was contracted to design and install a temporary bridge next to the 7th Street Bridge near  Gasparilla Inn & Club Golf Course spanning the Boca Grande Bayou Canal. The contracted solution included a  180 ft. Acrow 700XS Modular Bridging system. This multi-phased project first included the design of the approaches and the foundation substructure to integrate with the selected bridge configuration. The foundation substructure consists of four pile bents, spaced at 60 ft. Each pile bent consist of two 24 in. x 80 ft. long tipped pipe piles topped with prefabricated steel caps. The delivery of the bridge was coordinated precisely to coincide with the construction activities. The 180 ft. structure was assembled on site and set in place. The final step in this phase was to install 84 cubic yards of Bank & Run Shore Stabilization Shell and 74 cubic yards of fill dirt then construct the approach slabs using 16 cubic yards of Class IV concrete. The project was completed within the required 60 day timeframe so as not to delay the construction of the nearby wastewater treatment facility. A 40 ft. span of the bridge will be removed and stored between Nov. 15th and May 1st each year allowing boat traffic to pass through the canal during “season”. The removal and reinstallation process will continue during the construction of wastewater treatment plant, which could be up to four years. Lastly, when construction on the facility is complete KBI will remove the entire bridge system and restore the site to its original condition.

What our Clients are Saying

Kelly Brothers was commissioned to construct a meandering 1,200 lineal foot elevated boardwalk, through our environmentally sensitive wetland. Our goal was to construct an elevated boardwalk and shell paths through this coastal habitat while respecting the mangrove forest, salt marsh, as well as the oak hammock uplands. The chorography technique Kelly Brothers created was truly impressive. As a result, there was no disturbance or destruction to any part of the surrounding area.

What our Clients are Saying

KBI was very cooperative in developing solutions to an unforeseen subsurface condition that occurred during installation of the piling. They negotiated the extra
work compensation fairly, and they proceeded with the work with no delays to the project.

What our Clients are Saying

Congratulations to the team for a great project. The KBI crew was outstanding. It is rare that a crew completes a dredge project without the need for a punch list at the end.  Thanks to Jake, Travis, and especially to Raul and his crew.
